Budget is a shape over time, not a total at month end.

Pacing compares committed spend against elapsed time, per campaign and per network, and adjusts daily budgets to land on the plan. It reads each network's learning state from the adapter and keeps edits small while a campaign is still gathering conversions. Movement limits come from the Campaign Constitution: maximum daily change, minimum time between edits, campaigns marked protected. The budget engine calculates each adjustment; pacing applies it through the adapter and records what changed.

Underspend and overspend fail differently

Pacing here shapes one campaign's daily budget through its adapter, respecting that network's learning state. The period envelope across channels is set once, in Budget. Tracking committed spend against elapsed time puts both on screen days before month end, while either is still correctable.

Learning phase is a hard constraint

Each adapter reports whether its network is still learning on a new campaign or a changed bid strategy. While it is, pacing caps how large and how frequent budget edits may be. A correction that would reset the network's own model is held back rather than applied.

Movement is bounded and logged

Maximum daily change, minimum dwell time between edits and protected campaigns are read from the Campaign Constitution before any move. Every applied change is written to the log with before-and-after values and the evidence behind it. Each one reverts through the same adapter that made it.

In this capability

  • Time-weighted spend tracking
  • Learning-phase edit caps
  • Daily movement limits
  • Logged, reversible changes
