Your finance team owns the definition.

Gross, contribution and net margin mean different things in different companies, and one team gets to decide which. Realvertising takes the margin definition and the resulting figures from your finance system, applies them to campaign-level revenue, and shows what is left after media cost. Cost of goods, shipping, payment fees, returns provisions and fulfilment stay defined where they are already maintained. Realvertising performs no accounting and holds no opinion on how margin should be calculated.

Ad spend is a line inside the margin

Campaign revenue is carried at its finance-defined margin before media cost is subtracted, so the figure you act on is the profit that survived the spend. A 4x return on a 20% margin product loses money; the same return at 70% is excellent. Channels ranked on revenue alone get funded on the wrong half of that arithmetic.

Margin varies by what sold

Product and category margin flows through to the campaign, creative and audience credited with the order, so a campaign credited with the low-margin half of the catalogue is visible without anyone building a spreadsheet. Mix shifts hiding inside a stable ROAS surface here first. Feed-driven shopping campaigns are where the two diverge most.

Minimum margin is a hard limit

The Campaign Constitution holds a minimum margin per account or segment, and the budget engine will not propose an allocation that breaches it. A campaign falling below has its increases blocked and the breach recorded with the figures that triggered it. The limit is yours to set and change; only the enforcement is automatic.
